Continuing the spirit of giving, afi cares journeyed through the hills to Thalgahadeniya, Algama where we came across the Subodha Differently Abled Persons Rehabilitation Home, a home dedicated to providing support, dignity, and comfort to differently abled persons in need.
The Home initially had limited resources and funding which led to limited comfort and at times an uncomfortable living environment for differently abled persons. During an initial site visit, our team recognized the dire need for improved bathroom amenities and bedding for the individuals living in the care home. Therefore, with the intention of creating a safe, nurturing, and pleasant living space, afi cares extended our support by providing two toilet sets, bedding essentials, pillows, and a warm meal to the residents of the Home. Creating a wave of smiles across the faces of the residents, afi cares ensured that the daily necessities required for the well-being for the people living in the Home were ensured and in safe hands.
Visiting a care home surrounded by animated trees and welcoming people, it served as an important reminder of the resilience and the strength of differently abled individuals who continue to smile despite adversity and obstacles life had imposed on them. Their compassion, perseverance, and determination continue to inspire afi cares and our team to actively give back to society, consistently and constantly.
This initiative, through its endeavor to support vulnerable individuals in need with essential necessities, complies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 01: No Poverty. Furthermore, it aligns with the SDGs 03: Good Health and Well-Being and 06: Clean Water and Sanitation through its focus on improving the mental and physical well-being of differently abled individuals.
Through these initiatives, afi cares remain committed to creating a positive change in society, creating happiness, and supporting people in need. By identifying practical needs and effectively addressing them, we continue to improve the quality of life of individuals as a part of our commitment towards the community. We extend our sincere appreciation to the caretakers of Subodha Differently Abled Persons Rehabilitation Home along with their residents for the warm welcome and hospitality shown towards our team.
