Last month, afi was proud to extend our support to the Christopher “Maithri” (Compassion) Therapy Centre for people with special needs, located in Colombo 15. This registered charity assisted approximately 40 families living below the poverty line, each with differently abled children of varying ages.
Recently, these families, primarily consisting of daily wage workers, faced immense hardships due to adverse weather conditions. The lack of work led to hunger and a myriad of other difficulties, compounding their everyday struggles. Recognizing their plight, we reached out to provide dry rations for 35 of these families and spent quality time with the special needs children. Their smiles, filled with pure joy, had the power to brighten the darkest of nights.
Our initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 01: No Poverty and 02: Zero Hunger. These goals aim to build the resilience of those in vulnerable situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to economic, social, and environmental shocks and disasters. Furthermore, they aim to end hunger and ensure access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food all year round to everyone.
Through our support, we strived to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society. This partnership was a testament to our commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. We invite you to continue joining us in such meaningful efforts. Together, we can create a world where compassion and equality are not just ideals, but realities. Let’s reach out our hands and hearts to those in need and make a lasting impact.
